Wow! I combined the Great American Afghan and Great American Aran Afghan, and finally, after two years, completed 30 squares - it's really big. Blocking took a really long time - some of them were much smaller than they should have been, and some were at quite a rakish angle.
I spent last night basting the squares together, and will begin the actual sewing today. They actually seemed to fit together pretty well when basted, so I'm hopeful the afghan will look as it should. Of course, the border will probably take another month or so, but it would be really cool if I could give myself the afghan for Christmas.

Looking forward to see the finished Aran. 30 squares?? Where did you find the other ones?
I agree! I need some fill in squares for others I didn't want to do!
I got some of the squares from the Great American Afghan book. It's by the same folks, and the squares (supposedly!) come out to 12" x 12".
hallo,
I am just going to start this and I wanted to know how much yarn you used. I am thinking of ordering from Webs cascade 220 what do you suggest
LouAnne - I made a much bigger afghan than was called for, so my yarn use was much greater. I used two full bags of heather green, and maybe two hanks of white for the afghan itself. (I think). The border, since the afghan is huge (6 blocks by 5 blocks) has taken 3+ hanks. All Cascade. I used size 8 needles throughout.
